The Buncombe County school system wants to renovate the former Buncombe County Career Technical Education Center in West Asheville to create a small Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM) themed high school. The goal is for the school to open with a freshman class of 80-100 students in the fall of 2014.
The Buncombe County School Board recently approved plans to spend $5.5 million in lottery and dedicated sales tax funds to pay for the renovations.
In other business, the board will consider a rezoning request to allow commercial development on a parcel of land at 374 Old County Home Road in Leicester.
Commissioners will also hear an update from the French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization, and consider several board appointments.
The board will meet at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the commissioner’s chambers, located at 200 College Street, suite 326. A short pre-meeting review of the agenda will begin at 4:15 p.m.
