Today, Asheville; tomorrow, the nation — that's the plan for pantry domination Asheville Goods envisions.
The new gift box company makes it easy to send local goods throughout the country. “I think it's a good cultural ambassador for Asheville so people can understand what's going on here,” says Megan Kirby, who co-owns the company.
In addition to providing a service, the boxes are designed to create a buzz about Asheville's artisan food producers. Each box includes a pamphlet with information about the items and the people who make them.
Walter Harrill, who owns Imladris Farm, sells jam through Asheville Goods. He explains that widespread distribution could help grow his brand. “The biggest challenge in my business is getting a sample in somebody’s mouth,” he says. “We get to wholesale some jam, which is always nice, but we also look for follow-up sales.”
The boxes come in different flavor profiles and include Roots and Branches crackers, Lusty Monk mustard, French Broad Chocolates, Dolci di Maria biscotti and more. Some products, such as West End Bakery biscuit mix, are available only through Asheville Goods.
Boxes start at $34, and shipping to anywhere in the country begins at $12. There is no shipping charge for pickup orders or large deliveries. For more information, visit ashevillegoods.com.

We received a box which included BBQ sauce from 12 Bones. I read the ingredient list and noticed it included High Fructose Corn Syrup. I don't know about you, but if I'm sending this box of goodies across the country to my friends, I want to be Asheville health proud. We are known for our head start in the health arena, so why include this in the box? I would be embarrassed to have something like that come from me. I think I'd rather get the products myself and send them. At least I'll know that it won't include any harmful chemicals.
