McCrory proclaims March Irish-American Heritage Month

From the office of the Governor:

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to be the home of citizens of Irish-American descent and to celebrate their contributions to our state’s rich heritage; and

WHEREAS, more than 40 million Americans are of Irish-American descent; since our nation’s inception and throughout our history, brave men, women and children, longing for a better life and yearning for freedom and opportunity, made the journey to the United States in search of a better life; and

WHEREAS, Irish-American citizens have made significant economic and cultural contributions to our nation and their influences can be found in every walk of life; and

WHEREAS, during the month of March and throughout the year, the State of North Carolina recognizes our Irish-American legacy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, PATRICK LLOYD McCRORY, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim March 2013, as “IRISH-AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
