Tomorrow, Tuesday, the 5th day of March and the 64th day of this year, 2013, yours truly, the Battery Park Book Exchange will host author Philip Ackerman-Leist. From 7 to 9 p.m. he will be speaking and discussing his newest book, published this past Friday, entitled "Rebuilding the Food Shed: How to Create Local, Sustainable, and Secure Food Systems."
Ackerman-Leist is a professor at Vermont's very own Green Mountain College. He's also a former North Carolina resident. BPBx is proud to host such as author, educator and earthly steward as he makes his way through several southern college. Asheville is a pit-stop between Appalachian State and Clemson. Tuesday's event is also sponsored by the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP), and with assistance from UNC-Asheville's environmental studies department and Warren Wilson College.

"Rebuilding the Foodshed" brings democracy back to the table through a focus on community-based food systems, food systems that are just and resilient. Models abound for re-envisioning how local food systems can transform how we eat, shop, grow, connect, and plan for the future. Farmer, professor, and author Philip Ackerman-Leist explores local scale from a national perspective and proposes strategies for creating more democratic and secure food systems.
