Hundreds of celebratory bike riders took to Asheville's streets and greenways yesterday for a St. Patrick's Day community ride.

Organized by Asheville on Bikes, the 2013 "Bike of the Irish" aimed to bring the local cycling community together for a good time, as well as to highlight recent greenways development. The idea, according to the nonprofit advocacy group's website, was to help "show people both on the bike and off that we belong on the streets of Asheville."

In keeping with the ride's "green" theme, many of the participants wore festive St. Patrick's Day inspired attire. The approximately 14 mile route took riders along roads and greenways through downtown, the River Arts District and West Asheville.
