Asheville, NC – In two weeks, the Rotarians Against Hunger (RAH) fourth annual food packaging event will take place. With the support of the community and local businesses and organizations, this year’s event promises to be a success.
The food packaging will take place at the Reuter Family YMCA in Biltmore Park on April 20, 2013. Community volunteers will gather to prepare, package and ready for delivery over 300,000 nutritious meals to be distributed throughout Western North Carolina and internationally to meet pressing needs.
To register to help package food vist www.RotariansAgainstHunger.com today.
The Rotary Clubs of Asheville and Asheville South, together with other Rotary clubs in Western North Carolina, Mission Children’s Hospital, Kids Against Hunger, the Reuter Family YMCA and MANNA FoodBank, join forces to combat the hunger crisis that is gripping our area.
In Western North Carolina, one insix individuals are food insecure, and of these, 33,000 are children and 9,600 are elderly.
The RAH goal is to raise $50,000 to provide for purchasing and packaging the food. Seventy percent of the food will be distributed throughout Western North Carolina through MANNA FoodBank, and thirty percent will be sent to families in need abroad. To date $33,000 has been raised through donations from local businesses and individuals.
Donate now at www.RotariansAgainstHunger.com to help reach the goal. Tax deductible donations can also be made to: Mission Healthcare Foundation with a notation that they are for Rotarians Against Hunger; the checks should be mailed to:

The Reuter Family YMCA is donating their gym for the event again this year. This venue provides an outstanding atmosphere for a fun day of packing, with a comfortable and convenient location for the volunteers.
“The YMCA of WNC is proud to support Rotarians Against Hunger providing an impactful and important outreach in our community,” said Mary Michael, YMCA Executive Community Center Director and President of the Rotary Club of Asheville South. “Ensuring our children and families have food on the table is essential to a Healthier Community.”
Thermo Fisher Scientific’s $5,000 donation makes them the lead event sponsor to date. The organization has supported Rotarians Against Hunger for the past three years and is a major partner in the battle against hunger in Western North Carolina.
RAH is inviting all individuals and organizations to participate. Donations and volunteers are desparately needed. People of all ages can contribute, and have a great time while doing it. Food will be packaged in three shifts, 8:30 a.m.—11 a.m., 11:30 a.m.— 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. — 5 p.m.
