Tags:Offering more than 50 workshops, which range in topic from sunrise meditation to fire spinning, the Three Days of Light Gathering (3DL) returns to the mountains this weekend. But 3DL director and founder Scott Love says the three-day music and healing arts festival isn't exclusively for people who “wear patchouli and have dreads.”
“We have bankers that are going to be drumming next to travelers. You're going to have engineers that are going to be dancing with circus performers,” Love says.
Guided by the holistic “mind-body-spirit” approach to wellness, the moved about 50 miles northwest of last year's festival grounds at Camp Rockmont. This year 3DL will take place at the Hot Springs campground. Festival manager Holly Bullman says the organizers have planned to host more about 1,000 people. She says the draw for the festival comes from the need people have to recharge and refocus their lives.
“We all know how it feels when we're on our a-game or when we're on-point, when we feel like we're charging ahead with new life and vigor. And then we all know what it feels like when we feel distracted or we feel like life kind of pull ed out the rug from under us,” she shares. “We're offering this festival for people to have all the tools that they need to be their most fulfilled, happy, healthy whole being so that we can give of ourselves more powerfully and live up to our true potential.”
At the gathering produced by Emergence Earth, Bullman says those tools will be found when attendees participate in different workshops, which explore the ideas of sustainability, natural health and wellness, personal spiritual development and community and culture.
“It's really about what are the things that connect us, not the things that separate us — whether that's class, economy, social structure, race, sex, religion, creed, all of that. For three days, all of that still exists in our world,” Love says. “But that's not we're attaching to. We're attaching to this innate desire to stop being silly and destructive and really get into co-creating something beautiful.”
Tickets for the three-day festival range in price with a single day pass ticket starting at $30. (A full list of ticket prices can be found here.) Already expecting hundreds of people from around the world, Bullman notes that this festival goes beyond the three-day time period.
“What we're really trying to do is give people the tools that they need to create a better future, create a happier life, live a more fulfilled life, to create the kind of transformation in the world that they see possible 365 days a year,” she says.“When we speak of the word light, light is synonymous with very many things. In our language, we associate light with wisdom and illumination.”
