White Oak Grove LLC proposes building a 108-unit apartment complex at a 6.5-acre site it owns in West Asheville at Hazel Mill Road and Clayton Avenue, the Asheville Citizen-Times reports. The company dropped plans for building 42 townhomes at the site, telling the Citizen-Times "That market is dead."

Owners of 6.5 acres at the corner of Hazel Mill Road and Clayton Avenue in West Asheville figure that if people are not buying townhomes in today’s housing market, maybe they will rent apartments.

White Oak Grove LLC has asked city government’s approval of plans for a 108-unit apartment complex on the land after abandoning plans to put 42 townhouse units on the property.

“That market is dead,” said Bob Grasso, a private local land planner who is a partner in the company. “Apartments are really the only thing going right now.”
