The Black Mountain Planning Board has declined to act on more stringent rental housing safety rules because of concerns such as added expenses for landlords.
It was at a regular planning board meeting on November 25 that the board discussed proposed tougher standards for the Town’s minimum housing code. Any recommendation from the appointed board would have to be sent to the elected board of aldermen for final approval.
Instead, planning board members said they wanted the proposed changes sent back to the housing commission. The appointed commission had made the suggested changes that included requiring exterior windows for every habitable room, requiring that rentals have working toilets at all times, and removing a requirement that tenants request repairs in writing.Read the full article
