Mountain Xpress and Sherwood’s Music are partnering to showcase local musicians through a series of stripped-down performances for the web. This week The Moon and You (and some friends too) perform “The Bottom of the Road.”

The Moon and You are an acoustic duo made up of guitarist Ryan Furstenberg and cellist Melissa Hyman. Hyman hails from New York while Furstenberg is from Ayden in eastern North Carolina, but the pair met while playing music in WNC. (You can read more about their creative and romantic collaboration in our Feb. 2013 story For Love and Music)

The duo’s music is Americana and folk influenced with rich harmonies and sweet lyrics. They are an actively touring band that branches out to include additional members, especially when playing hometown shows. Appearing in this video are Dulci Ellenberger (melodica and vocals) and Ryan Lassiter (drums), who also play with Hyman in Sweet Claudette, and Jordan Nance (bass) and Rob Nance (mandolin), who are in the Durham-based Americana group Rob Nance and The Lost Souls.

You can hear more from the Moon and You, including their 2013 album The Ocean’s Lonely Daughter (recorded at Collapseable Studios in West Asheville)  at themoonandyou.bandcamp.com. The group also has two upcoming local shows; catch them on Friday, Feb. 21 at the Green Room or on Thursday, March 27 at the Emerald Lounge with Tina and Her Pony (who will be appearing in this series next week).

This video web series is produced by Mountain Xpress and Sherwood’s Music. Check back each week for a new video featuring Asheville and WNC musicians.
