Local author Sarah Addison Allen celebrates the paperback release of her novel, The Girl Who Chased the Moon on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

The charming story — a work of magical reality — tells of teenaged Emily Benedict has arrives in Mullaby, N.C. following the death of her mother. Emily has been sent to live with her grandfather, the town giant, in a town that Emily's mother never really spoke of. Right away, Emily finds that she's surrounded by mystery: The wallpaper in her bedroom changes pattern to reflect her mood, there are strange lights in the yard at night, her neighbor Julia bakes cakes to bring back a lost love and there's a boy — Win Coffee — to whom Emily is attracted despite everyone around them trying to keep them apart.

Allen will be at Malaprop's on Wednesday, Feb. 9 to give a talk and a book signing at 7 p.m. (She'll return to the bookstore on Tuesday, March 22, for the launch of her forthcoming novel, The Peach Keeper. Stay tuned for more on that.)
