According to the children's song "They Said Eat the Broccoli," "There's drippy runny ice-cream cones 'cause kids can't live on bread alone ..." But at a Taste of Asheville presented by PSNC Energy -- Bele Chere's cheerful gaggle of Asheville-based eatery booths -- kids and their adult companions will find plenty of excuses to eat their victuals, too.
Gourmet pizzas, overstuffed burritos, Asian-inspired noodle dishes and Cajun cookin' (because supposedly sweating more helps you cool off) are among the offerings. Upscale restaurants turn out snacks with European flair (crustini is a sure bet), while home-style kitchens and pubs serve up everyone's favorites. And if, after sampling everything from Gyros to kabobs, you've still got room, rest assured there's a drippy, runny ice-cream cone with your name on it. (Apart from Taste of Asheville, Bele Chere offers plenty of standard-issue food booths, scattered at key points throughout the festival.)
