Pack the house

Asheville’s favorite women’s flat track roller derby team is preparing for an apocalyptic 2012 season.

We will continue to empower young girls and women in Western North Carolina by demonstrating that women of all sizes, shapes and backgrounds can play a highly competitive, hard-hitting sport with style, grace and excellent sportswomanship.

We will bring the community an affordable, fun and local sports experience in our new home at the WNC Agricultural Center on Airport Road. We want to grow our fan base and pack the house because 10 percent of our profits go to local charities.

And, finally, we will be giving Asheville a truly competitive team that plays for championships by facing tougher competition and expanding our search to find our very own dedicated practice space. Our women train to be the best!

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
