Smart Bets: Turchi

Kudzu-boogie outfit Turchi (named for front man Reed Turchi) has been nonstop touring for the past year or so, and it's paying off. Like, with a feature in Oxford American (way harder to come by than a write up in, say, Rolling Stone), and a showcase for that Southern lit magazine. Though the band has been based on Chapel Hill and Memphis for the past five years, Turchi (the guy) is an Asheville native and is bringing Turchi (the band) back to his old stomping ground. And not just to debut a new EP, which releases in July. That's right, Turchi's Saturday, July 6 show at The Lab is also a homecoming-in-the-permanent-sense celebration. "I am extremely excited to be rooted there again," the front man tells Xpress. 9:30 p.m., $7. http://lexavebrew.com.
