Busk Break: Charles, Eris and Kris perform a (mostly) untitled original — and a bonus cover-attachment0

When it comes to recording buskers, I’m generally reluctant to linger for more than a few songs. As informal an activity as busking generally is, the reality is that I’m intruding on someone trying to make a few bucks, and every minute they spend talking to me is a minute they’re not making tips. But on rare occasions, I run into a group of folks that seem far more interested in playing for the sake of playing than they are in what makes it into their tip jar. This was definitely the case last week when I met Eris Valentine, Kris Wahl and Charles Clyde Toney II. The result was nearly an hour of fun, original and entertaining late-night busking. While I have several more songs from this trio, there’s simply too much variety in the local busking scene to keep lingering on any set of performers. So, let’s send them off with a pair of videos.

In the first, we have a mellow original tune from Charles Clyde Toney II that may, or may not, be dedicated to one of his fellow performers. (Watch to the end to understand exactly what I mean by that.)

In the second, the trio cover the Devil Makes Three tune “Old Number Seven.” It’s short, sweet and fun.
