Conscious Party web extra: Launch of new 10^10 organization and benefit for SEED_Haiti project

Who: 10^10

What: Official launch of 10^10, a new nonprofit organization that “proposes simple design solutions for global problems,” and a benefit for the organization’s inaugural project, SEED_Haiti. The event will feature soul/blues/rock music by Ol’ Hoopty, food contributed by Boca, and a fashion show and silent auction by Royal Peasantry.

Where: 29 Carolina Lane in downtown Asheville

When: Wednesday, Jan. 12, 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Why: The event is being held on the one-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Haiti that left more than 1,000,000 homeless. Formed by Asheville residents and designers Martha Skinner and Douglas Hecker in response to the earthquake in Haiti, the couple say “10^10 (10 to the power of 10) is the manifestation of a long-percolating desire between [them] to create an organization dedicated to launching simple design ideas into action — with big results.” 10^10’s first project, SEED_Haiti, is, according to the organization’s website, “an environmental and humanitarian solution for providing relief housing [in Haiti] with the adaptive reuse of surplus ISO shipping containers, which in time turn into permanent homes.” Visit 10^10 or check out the organization’s Facebook page for more info.
