Musicians know it costs money to do a real album right. Now longtime local artist Aaron “Woody” Wood is using the website Kickstarter to fund his project. The site is a way to harness social media and get Wood’s backers to help pay for the project. You can pledge at different tiers, and receive different rewards for doing so. By August 28, if Wood hasn’t reached his goal, the deal’s off and everyone gets their money back. If by August 28, Wood has reached the goal, everyone gets their rewards and Wood produces a new album.
Wood has played music in this town for a long, long time. Most folks out and about have heard him in one form or another. His band Hollywood Red has been tearing it up for years; he’s an original member of seminal Asheville band the Blue Rags, he’s the Jimmy Page in Custard Pie, he’s hosted open mics, played solo acoustic, just him and a guitar, slayed with members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band (as part of the BlueBrass Project) … to list just a few.

Here’s the run-down of how kickstarter works.
You can pledge anywhere from $1 to $2,500 or more. A dollar gets you satisfaction, $2,500 gets you a private show (there’s a limit on those). And right now, $25 gets you an invite to a pool party/house concert on July 4.
So far, 28 folks have pledged $2,075. That’s more than 20 percent of the total goal. Go, Woody, go!
