Tickets gone for James Taylor’s free concert

Tickets are gone for the Sunday James Taylor concert in Asheville, said Paul Cox, a spokesman for N.C.‘s Obama-Biden campaign.

Grammy award-winning folk singer Taylor (the voice behind “Sweet Baby James,” “Goin’ to Carolina” and “Steam Roller”) is doing his part to get North Carolina voters to the polls. Taylor, a Barack Obama supporter, hopes to drive home the Democratic candidate’s message and inspire voters to cast their ballots early. (Early voting in Buncombe county opened today and runs through Saturday, Nov. 1. Click here for a list of locations.)

Taylor’s Concert for Change tour covers Charlotte, Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Wilmington, and stops in Asheville on Sunday, Oct. 19. The show is to be held at Martin Luther King Jr. Park (50 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.); doors at 6:30 p.m.

The free tickets had been offered outside several early voting locations. They were given out to eager fans in about an hour, Cox said.

Why the heck are the ticket locations all over on the west side when the concert is on the East side of downtown? There’s plenty of eary voting locations out this way too. What a bummer.

According to the person I spoke with at UNCA, tickets will be available at 10am. Expect long lines and a very quick sell-out.

I was lucky enough to get tickets at the West Asheville Library this morning – the line was long and they were only allowing two tickets per person present. So at least Helen and i are going.

I was even briefly interviewed by the (pthooey) Asheville Citizen-Times.

Folks I got up with a terrible cold this morning. It doesn’t look like I’ll be able to go see JT. So I have 2 tickets available. Anyone interested email me. dave.marks@ymail.com
