Video a-go-go

It’s probably not a huge surprise that the recent snowfall has been the subject of a ton of new, local videos. As you might expect, the real challenge was finding a video of the recent snowfall to represent the rest. The honors go to holycowdude for this scenic little video.

Of course, snow days often mean all your regular plans are put on hold, as the roads are icy and many places are closed. Whatever can one do with all that extra time? If you happen to be tmc1964, you spent the day making a video about putting weather insulation and duct tape all over your Xbox controller. Why? In an effort to make it more mockable … I mean, comfortable, of course!

Speaking of Do-It-Yourself video projects, who doesn’t love a homemade zombie movie? If you answered, “I don’t!” I have just the thing. It’s a trailer for a zombie movie that will almost certainly never get made. It’s like getting all of the benefits of supporting local filmmakers without actually having to sit through any of their films! Possibly not work safe for fake blood and zombie gore.

And from the supernatural terror of zombies, we transition to the (supposedly) supernatural mystery of the Brown Mountain Lights. While this night-vision camera footage by CrystalSkullExplorer is deliciously ambiguous, it will almost certainly help to keep the debate about the existence and nature of these lights active for years to come.

And, being that it’s the week before Christmas, there’s really no escaping the sheer volume of holiday music that’s been uploaded this week. While most of it was what you’d expect—traditional holiday music rendered in a slightly dry, stiff kind of way—there were two rather remarkable holiday-related videos in the search this week. The first is the song “Oh sh*t! It’s Christmastime!” by local band The Mad Tea Party, which is great not work safe fun if you’re of the cynical set when it comes to the holidays. It would have made for a great addition to the round-up, but eagle-eyed arts reporter Alli Marshall posted about it earlier this week, leaving us with something a bit more restrained. Here’s the PHS Chamber Singers performing a kind of proto-mashup of “Away In A Manger” to the tune of “Scarborough Fair” at a recent holiday event at the Grove Park Inn.

Each week, dozens upon dozens of interesting local videos are uploaded to YouTube. It’s a lot to keep up with. Did we miss a particularly interesting, recently uploaded local video? Share it by leaving the videos URL (but not the embed code) in the comment fields below. Also, please mark it Not Work Safe if there’s any controversial content to the video.
