*UPDATED* From AVL to NPR: Local “Tiny Desk Concert contest” submissions

You probably already know and love NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, which has hosts everyone from T-Pain to the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens and from Pixies to Asheville’s own Angel Olsen. The videos are always wonderful and the sheer number of them begs the question, if these mini-concerts are actually taking place at Bob Boilen’s desk, how the heck does the guy ever get any work done? (Boilen is the host of NPR program “All Songs Considered’ and the co-creator of the Tiny Desk series.)

Well, even less work is going to be taking place at that hallowed desk, because NPR Music has announced its Tiny Desk Concert contest. It’s judged by Boilen with producer John Congleton, “All Songs” co-host Robin Hilton and Tiny Desk alums Valerie June, Reggie Watts and Thao Nguyen. The winner will be flown to Washington, D.C. to perform, and will also play the Lagunitas CouchTripp’ to Austin showcase.

Today is the final day to enter; entries can be viewed here. But since a number of local bands have thrown their hats into the ring, here’s a mini Asheville music video show for your viewing pleasure. (Know of others? Send us a link and we’ll add them!)

Hi Gary, the story evolved from Tiny Desk submission videos that showed up in my Facebook feed and an email conversation with Jason Mencer (Now You See Them) who provided links to the videos he was aware of. Thanks for sharing your YouTube playlist!
