Smart bets: Ashley Heath

Ashley Heath has been playing music locally for 12 years, but only recently upgraded her side projects to a career. That, she’s found out, involved playing four to five gigs per week while working on her debut album, A Different Stream. “This was my first round of songwriting, and if you take a look at the song titles, you can tell that I have just transitioned from the floating around part of life,” she says. Though the Marshall native’s project features Asheville musicians from The Resonant Rogues, Raising Caine, The Honeycutters and more, its standout element is Heath’s breezy voice, which solidifies at key moments to great effect. Caine McDonald and Patrick Dodd open the release show, during which Heath will perform with a full band at Asheville Music Hall on Friday, May 27, at 8 p.m. $12/$15. ashevillemusichall.com.
