Xpress playlist: songs from locals and former locals

This week’s playlist feature new and recent tracks from local band, and two songs from former locals who remain honorary members of the Asheville music scene.

• “This Time Around” by Paper Tiger, is from the local trip-hop duo’s forthcoming album.

• “Japello” is from It all comes down to this, by local composer/producer dep. He performs at Asheville Music Hall on Thursday, July 10, with Luzius Stone, New Color and Starspinner.

• “Naturally” is the lead track from The Awakening, the just-released album by Laura Reed. You might remember Reed from her local soul band, Deep Pocket. She’s since cut her dreadlocks, moved to Nashville, and recorded a polished collection of pop-savvy R&B.

• “Carolina Love” is the new single from Carolina Wray (formerly Old North State).

• “Always the first,” by Josh Phillips Folk Festival, comes from a group of rough tracks he posted to his Bandcamp page. Apparently Phillips is in the process of recording a follow up to 2012’s Get Outside.

• “Keep it Together” comes from indie-pop band Decent Lovers, fronted by singer-songwriter and former Asheville resident Elijah Wyman.
