Our VOICE to hold new fundraiser on Dec. 6

Press release

From Our VOICE
Our VOICE, the Buncombe County Rape Crisis and Prevention Center, is hosting the first annual W.E.A.R. Asheville event on Thursday December 6th from 7-9pm at Pack Place. This unique fundraiser combines the talents of local jewelry makers with the goal of promoting the idea that “We Each Are Responsible” for preventing sexual violence in our community.

“We believe that education and awareness are the building blocks of prevention and that each of us is responsible for creating a safer community built on respect and non-violence,” says Executive Director, Angelica Wind.

The agency that presents the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes for the men of Buncombe County each spring has a little something in store for the ladies this holiday season!

Attendees pay $25 per ticket and then choose from over 100 pieces of local jewelry. Similar to MANNA Food Bank’s Empty Bowls Lunch, people are encouraged to arrive early for the largest selection. Held on a winter’s night in the middle of holiday season, this event is a great opportunity to support an amazing cause and walk away with a special piece of jewelry (to keep or to give as a gift!) Hot wintery drinks and delicious desserts will be served along with the musical stylings of Jason Smith.
Tickets are limited; only between 100 and 115 will be sold. They can be purchased by phone at (828) 252- 0562 or online at http://www.ourvoicenc.org.

Our VOICE offers a 24/7 crisis line (828-255-7576) and hospital accompaniment for individuals who have experienced sexual assault. Case management, individual, and group counseling is also available to survivors and their families at no cost. Prevention education and outreach efforts are conducted throughout the county in schools, faith communities, civic groups, and at local fairs and festivals. Additional programs such as Bar Outreach, Climbing Towards Confidence, Sexual Harassment Prevention Education, HeartWorks Healing Arts, and Kelly’s Line (Sex Worker Outreach Program) are also offered through Our VOICE.
