UHaul CarShare kicks into gear with City of Asheville

Press Release

From UHaul:

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (April 8, 2014) – UhaulCarShare, the City of Asheville and the University of North Carolina Asheville (UNC Asheville) are partnering up to bring North America’s most advanced car-sharing service to Asheville. The UhaulCarShare Program Kickoff will introduce UhaulCarShare to the residents of Asheville, NC and surrounding areas while also recognizing the partnership with the City of Asheville and the UNC Asheville.

“UhaulCarShare allows individuals the flexibility and freedom a car provides while eliminating the financial burden of owning a car,” stated Mariah Reid, program director, UhaulCarShare. “In addition, the service provides peace of mind knowing the insurance, maintenance, reserved parking spots and 24/7 roadside assistance are included in the rates.”

The City of Asheville is welcoming three UhaulCarShare vehicles, one of which will be on display at the UhaulCarShare Kickoff event, scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19th during the Asheville Earth Day event on Lexington Avenue in downtown Asheville. These vehicles include two Ford C-Max Hybrids and one Nissan Cube. Additionally, event goers will have the opportunity to have a one-on-one tutorial with the All-New 2014 Ford C-Max and learn how to reserve a UhaulCarShare vehicle.

Beginning April 20th, the vehicles will be located in three different locations around the city. These locations include:

The south side of College Street between South Market and Spruce Street.
The north side of South Pack Square between South Market Street and Biltmore Avenue
The south side of Patton Avenue between Haywood Street and where College Street intersects with Patton Avenue.
The UhaulCarShare Program Kickoff will have corporate representation from U-Haul to speak with the public about UhaulCarShare and offer incentives for prospective members to sign up on the spot. Asheville Mayor Esther E. Manheimer will also attend. This partnership will provide the residents of Asheville greater options for transportation allowing individuals to maintain a sustainable lifestyle in one cost-effective and convenient package.

“This is another great example of what can be achieved through strategic public/private partnerships,” said Mayor Manheimer. “Combined with Asheville’s ART routes, ever-growing bike lanes, sidewalks and greenways, a car-sharing program has the potential to further enhance the city’s sustainability initiatives realized through more efficient uses of traditional transportation.”
