From a press release:

TEDxTryon:“A community conversation exploring the people, places, and events that shape our lives in the Carolina Foothills.”

TRYON – On Saturday, September 12, 2015 one hundred enthusiastic TEDx attendees will join in a first annual foothills community conversation. This independently produced event, under a license from TED, is organized by community volunteers and will provide a forum for dynamic speakers, performers and local thought leaders to share ideas and get our region talking, dreaming, and growing together.
Centered around the theme “live. inspire. repeat”, TEDxTryon promises to be an unforgettable experience, one that brings fascinating people and their stories literally out of the woodwork and onto the stage.
“TEDxTryon will be a catalyst to get our foothills community collaborating, connecting, growing and learning together in new ways,” says co-organizer Corrie Woods. “Folks will find themselves saying, ‘I didn’t know that’ as we unearth some of the hidden treasures right here in our backyard.”
This all-day event will take place on the main stage at Tryon Fine Arts Center on September 12, 2015. A farm-to-table lunch will be provided, as well as other creative meet-ups planned beyond the September 12th event, to continue the community conversation.
TEDxTryon is currently seeking dynamic speakers, performers, volunteers and sponsors for the event. For more information, or to submit a speaker nomination for yourself or someone else, please visit: TedxTryon, or contact
 co-organizer Loti Woods at LotiWoods@gmail.com.

About TEDx

In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxOakville, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxOakville, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

 About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today’s leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED’s annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, and made available, free, on TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
TED’s open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; the annual million-dollar TED Prize, which funds exceptional individuals with a “wish,” or idea, to create change in the world; TEDx, which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
