AC-T: Fire destroys 2 homes in Black Mountain

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Tuesday that a fire destroyed two homes and damaged another Monday afternoon in a mountainside development near Black Mountain.

Investigators had not released a cause or origin of the fire, which was reported about 3:40 p.m. in the area of Old Toll Road and Sky Drive. Firefighters with the Black Mountain Fire Department saw the blaze as they left the station a little more than a mile away.

“We could see up here on the mountain that it had one house fully involved,” Fire Chief Steve Jones said. “We got up here, we found three houses that had been involved in fire and a woods fire around it. And we had to protect the fourth one before the woods fire got to it.”

One home burned to the ground and a second home next door was destroyed from internal damage, Jones said. A third house also nearby had outside damage. No injuries were reported.
