AC-T: Forum will look at battle over Asheville’s water system

Five local environmental groups are sponsoring a forum Monday to update residents on the battle over the city’s water system.

The Asheville Citizen-Times says speakers also will discuss other water-related issues, including the recent Duke Energy coal ash spill into the Dan River and contamination of drinking water in West Virginia that affected thousands of people.

Sponsors of Monday’s forum are Mountain Voices Alliance, SaveOur Water WNC, Clean Water for NC, Asheville PARC and Western North Carolina Alliance.

A hearing could be held within a month in the city’s lawsuit challenging a 2013 state law that would transfer control of the city system to the Metropolitan Sewerage District, said Barry Summers, of Save Our Water WNC.
