AC-T: Suit filed in A-B Tech board flap

Here’s an excerpt from the Asheville Citizen-Times article:

A Weaverville businessman has filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn a controversial appointment to the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College’s board of trustees.

The civil suit, filed in Buncombe County Superior Court by Steve Holland, contends the Madison County Board of Commissioners violated the state’s open meetings law when it approved the appointment of Madison commissioner Wayne Brigman to the A-B Tech board in February.

The suit lists the Madison Board of Commissioners, Wayne Brigman individually and the A-B Tech board as defendants.

Holland’s suit contends the inappropriate appointment of Brigman kept Buncombe County commissioner Mike Fryar off the board. Fryar had been a critic of A-B Tech president Hank Dunn and a sales tax increase supporting an A-B Tech building program.

Holland, a 47-year-old real estate broker who’s a registered Republican, said today he doesn’t know Fryar and has no political ax to grind. He said he simply felt the officials involved circumvented the law and should be held accountable…
