AFD: investigation leads to arson arrest

From the Asheville Fire Department:

ASHEVILLE – On February 4th, 2014 the Asheville Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at 165 S. French Broad Ave, Aston Park Tower Apartments. Upon arrival crews observed that a smoke alarm had activated on the second floor. The preliminary investigation revealed that the fire originated where a sign had been attached to the door of an occupied resident’s door. Due to the possibility of arson, the Asheville-Buncombe Arson Task Force continued the investigation. The investigation concluded the fire was an intentional, unlawful act and ultimately led to the identification of the offender, Derrick Clinton Barineau, 33, of Asheville. Barineau was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Arson. He is currently being held at the Buncombe County Detention Center under $20,000 bond
