ASHEVILLE – On Sunday, 03-11-12, at approx. 7:24 am; Officers from the Asheville Police Department responded to LaMancha Drive in East Asheville in reference to a female screaming for help. The caller stated that a male subject was assaulting a female. The caller met with responding officers and pointed out the apartment.

Officers knocked and announced numerous times with no results and did not originally hear any noise inside the apartment. Officer Eric Summey then heard someone deadbolt the door from inside the apartment. After consultation with supervisors, the determination was made to make a forced entry into the apartment. Once inside, officers observed the rear bedroom door closed. Officers announced and made entry into the bedroom where the male and female were located.

During the course of the investigation it was determined that the male subject, later identified as 29 year old Ancil Kenny Edmonds, was holding the female subject against her will in the bedroom after assaulting her, refusing to allow her to answer the door. AFD and EMS were requested to treat the pregnant female for a non-life threatening injury to her nose. The male suspect was transported and charged with Assault on Female, First Degree Kidnapping, and Possession of Marijuana. He is currently being held on a $30,200.00 dollar secure bond.
