APD investigates double fatality collision

From the Asheville Police Department:

Asheville – The Asheville Police Department responded to a three vehicle collision on August 28, 2013 at approximately 3:24 AM on I-26 east in between the 32 and 33 mile markers.

A 2001 Honda Civic operated by 63 year old Dennis Tornquist of Brevard was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-26. The Honda collided with the rear tandem axles of a 2009 Volvo tractor trailer operated by Jackie Taylor of Knoxville, Tn. The Honda then collided head on with a 1995 Chevy Tahoe operated by Fredrick King, 61, of Canton, NC. Mr. Tornquist and Mr. King died at the scene. Mr. Taylor was not injured.

The investigation continues and further information will be released when it becomes available.
