APD investigates morning shooting on Merrimon Ave.

The full release from the Asheville Police Department:

Asheville – On 07/09/2012 at approximately 0306 the Asheville Police Department responded to Mission Hospital in reference to a gunshot wound. Officers located Keith Lee Sheppard 36 of 120 Arco Rd. in the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the hand. Mr. Sheppard was transported to the hospital by a friend. Mr. Sheppard was treated and released from Mission Hospital.

The shooting was reported to have taken place near 90 and 100 block of Merrimon Ave. The suspect was described as a black male with medium build wearing a light colored T-shirt and dark shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110 or Asheville Buncombe Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050. Individuals can also text an anonymous tip to APD TIP at 274637 (CRIMES).

    There is a lot of drug activity in that area and rarely any police presence.
