AFD rescues woman from car stuck in French Broad River

Full announcement from the Asheville Police Department:

Asheville – The Asheville Police Department responded to a report of a traffic crash on Lyman Street where a vehicle was upside down & partially submerged in the French Broad River with an individual trapped inside.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 1999 Acura TL 4-door operated by 46 year old Ronda Evans Williams of Asheville was traveling southbound on Lyman Street, ran off the roadway to the right, down an embankment, overturned and came to rest on its top in approximately 4 feet of water. AFD water rescue & dive team personnel were able to free Ms. Williams who was transported to Mission Hospital with minor non-life threatening injuries.
