APD, Sheriff release joint statement on capture of suspected bank robber

Joint announcement from the Asheville Police Department and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office:

Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan and Asheville Police Chief William Anderson held a press conference on 4/12/2012 at 4:30 pm. The conference announced the identification of Clyde Nixon as the person responsible for several area bank robberies in the early part of this year. Clyde Nixon has been taken into custody in Kingsport TN. Nixon will face charges in Tennessee unrelated to our bank robberies. Sheriff Van Duncan and Chief William Anderson both expressed their relief that Nixon is in custody and no one has been injured due to his actions. The robberies are being prosecuted by the FBI in conjunction with the US Attorney’s office and both the Buncombe County Sheriffs Office and the Asheville Police Department are assisting the FBI.
