Press release:

LOCAL ART ORGANIZATION PROVIDES MANY BENEFITS FOR AREA ARTISTS
Art League of Henderson County Offers Networking, Programs and Gallery Displays for Artists

Hendersonville, NC – The art community is growing each year in Henderson County. Many new residents who move into the area are artists or patrons and seek out a place to interact with fellow art enthusiasts and enjoy the works created by fellow artists. The Art League of Henderson County has provided that resource in Henderson County since its organization in 1962. The ALHC has a membership of over one hundred artists and art lovers and is one of the oldest established art organizations in North Carolina.  Membership is not restricted to Henderson County, either. All are welcome to join.

The League was incorporated as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit corporation May 15, 1979, with the purpose of promotion, development and enjoyment of the visual arts. Today it honors this legacy by providing monetary support for local art teachers to purchase supplies, art on loan to local schools, sponsoring monetary awards for student artists, community outreach, exhibitions and workshops.

The Art League invites anyone who may be interested in joining to attend a meeting and enjoy its monthly art exhibit in the hallways and in the auditorium of The Opportunity House. Most months, there is also a guest artist program following a short business meeting. The Sunday, September 11 meeting features popular local artist Amy Perrier who is recognized for her “finger painting.”Artists joining in August for the balance of the year, will pay only $25 rather than the full membership of $45. Art League members enjoy:

  • Monthly Meetings with Demo or Program
  • Guest Artist Exhibitions
  • Exhibit Space with Awards & Prizes
  • Critique Groups
  • Workshops
  • Fall Member Show
  • Extensive Art Library
  • Special Events
  • Monthly Newsletter

The Art League of Henderson County meets monthly on the second Sunday of each month (except May, when it will be the 3rd Sunday) at Opportunity House, 1411 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville. A social hour usually begins around 1:30 p.m., with the meeting starting about 2 p.m. An art-related presentation is offered following the meeting. Guests are welcome.
