Art & Soul benefit raises $12,638 for CARING For Children

A benefit fundraiser hosted last month by artist Jonas Gerard — entitled “Art & Soul” — has raised over $12,000 dollars for local nonprofit organization CARING For Children, according to a press release from the organization.

CARING For Children development director Terri Bowman says that more than 80 people were in attendance for Gerard’s September 24 live demonstration and auction. “Once the crowd was seated and the introductions were made, the lights were lowered and the music began to play,” says Bowman. “Jonas stepped up to the canvas and one by one, created six paintings throughout the evening that were immediately auctioned off to the captivated audience.”

The event also featured a selection of craft beers donated by 1-800-Water Damage, in addition to hors d’oeuvres provided by the Biltmore Company, Corner Kitchen Catering, Roly Poly of Asheville, Well-Bred Bakery and the Country Club of Asheville.

In addition to the live performance auction sales, Gerard also donated 25 percent of his gallery sales from that weekend to support CARING For Children’s child and family services programs, which serve over 1,600 families and youths in western North Carolina.

Gerard will present a check to CARING For Children this afternoon at 2 p.m. at his Clingman Avenue gallery in the River Arts District.
