Asheville Art Museum hosts a free, all-ages coloring session, July 1

PRESS RELEASE FROM ASHEVILLE ART MUSEUM:

The Asheville Art Museum invites you to unwind after a stressful day by tapping into your inner child. The Museum presents a free coloring session on Friday, July 1 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. as part of the Downtown Asheville Art District’s First Friday Art Walk. The Museum will supply coloring templates from Black Mountain College artist Lorna Halper, and guests of all ages are welcome to get creative using our colored pencils while enjoying music and light refreshments.

The recent surge in popularity of “adult coloring” isn’t surprising. According to the American Art Therapy Association, art can help reduce anxiety, increase self-esteem and reconcile emotional conflicts. Art therapy also provides an opportunity to enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of art making.

The Museum holds a significant collection of Lorna Halper’s artwork in its Permanent Collection. Halper is known for her studies of lines, making her work an ideal template to color. Guests have the opportunity to relax and create their own works of art by engaging with the creative gift of an artist with ties to the WNC community.
