Asheville Art Museum hosts pianoforte concert with Teresa Sumpter, Nov. 9

The Asheville Art Museum is pleased to host the next concert in its Pianoforte recital series on Sunday, November 9 at 3:00 p.m. This popular event takes place in the Museum’s stunning gallery where a Sol LeWitt drawing is currently installed. For this concert, Pianoforte alumna Teresa Sumpter will perform selections from Schubert, Bach, Faure and Brahms. Dr. Sumpter is currently Associate Professor of Piano, Chair of the Department of Music and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at Mars Hill University where she teaches applied and group piano. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Education with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma. She received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Ball State University. Dr. Sumpter is an active member of the Asheville Area Piano Forum and a member of the Music Teachers National Association and North Carolina Music Teachers Association. She has performed, adjudicated and presented throughout the country.

• Barcarolle No. 3 in G-flat Major, Op. 42 (1885)— Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924)

• Sonata in A Major, D. 959 (1828)—Franz Schubert (1797-1828)
