Asheville Darkroom fundraiser events

PRESS RELEASE FROM ASHEVILLE DARKROOM:

The Asheville Darkroom will be hosting two events with photographer / documentary film maker Bill Daniel (currently lecturing as part of the Black Mountain School program) on the weekend of June 11th/12th.

The first event on Saturday June 11th is a fundraiser to support the darkroom’s move from the recently sold Phil Mechanic Studios to AAAC’s new Refinery Creator space at 207 Coxe Ave.

The second event on Sunday June 12th is a workshop entitled “Junk Camera Construction/Primitive Photography with Bill Daniel”. This event will take place at The Asheville Darkroom’s current space inside the Phil Mechanic Studios on Roberts St. in the River Arts District.

JUNK CAMERA CONSTRUCTION/PRIMITIVE PHOTOGRAPHY

Hobo filmmaker/phototramp Bill Daniel is coming to The Asheville Darkroom! His 1-day workshop will explore ways of making photographs in a low cost, modern primitive style.

Students will learn how to construct cameras from simple materials, utilize photographic paper as in-camera film, and re-purpose thrift store gems, like polaroid cameras and found optics. Basic black and white darkroom production will be covered including: exposure, print developing, Rayograms, pinhole photography, direct positive printing, and contact printing. Experimental fun, plus theory. All photo supplies will be provided. Students are asked to bring old medium-format cameras, pack or roll film Polaroids, junk lenses, surplus optics – all to be modified/hacked.
