Asheville Humane: Stray dog delivers eight puppies during single-digit temperatures

With temperatures dangerously low in the single digits on Wednesday night, this sweet mother dog wandered the streets looking for a safe place to have her babies. She crawled up onto the porch of a home in the Emma neighborhood of West Asheville and delivered eight, tiny puppies. Here’s the report from Asheville Humane Society:

Dear Friend,

We have an amazing story to share with you! With temperatures dangerously low in the single digits on Wednesday night, this sweet mother dog wandered the streets looking for a safe place to have her babies. She crawled up onto the porch of a home in the Emma neighborhood of West Asheville and delivered eight, tiny puppies.Thankfully, she happened to be noticed by the homeowner and was given shelter through the rest of the night. Chances are, the newborn puppies would not have survived the frigid night if they hadn’t been found. Yesterday, the whole family was brought to Asheville Humane Society‘s staff for care, medical evaluations and nourishment.Mom is underweight, but overall, this little family is doing great. Since she was coincidentally found off a street named “Arctic Road” on the coldest night of the winter season, we named her Elsa, the Snow Queen from the movie Frozen. Elsa and her 8 pups (6 girls and 2 boys) will now be heading to a foster home, where they will be safe and warm.

We are thankful that this story had a happy outcome rather than a tragic one. If you see an animal in need, especially during this cold weather, we thank you in advance for taking the time to help! You could save a life, or in this case, nine!
If you would like to help more animals like Elsa and her puppies,
without a home and in need of care you can make a difference!
Please consider making a donation, and we thank you for your support! Donations keep Asheville Humane Society’s lifesaving programs, such as Foster Care, going strong!
