Asheville named No. 5 in Top Ten Towns for Craft Lovers

In advance of American Craft Week, which takes place Oct. 2-11, event organizers launched a poll to determine the Top Ten Towns in the U.S. for Craft Lovers. Asheville ranked No. 5 on the list.

American Craft Week, the nation’s largest annual craft celebration, launched a web competition a month ago to craft lovers across the country to choose their favorite places to enjoy a vibrant craft scene.

Diane Sulg, founder and co-chair of American Craft Week, today announced the winners: “Congratulations, to St. Petersburg for their first place finish and to all the communities that made it into the Top Ten Towns for Craft Lovers! There was fierce competition for every spot on the final tally, and we commend the community advocates who spearheaded the voting,” said Sulg,

The complete top ten list includes #10 New Hope, PA., #9 Berea, KY., #8 Pittston, PA., #7 Santa Fe, NM., #6 Cumberland Valley, PA., #5 Asheville, NC., #4 Alexandria, VA., #3 Berkeley Springs, WV., #2 Brattleboro, VT., and #1 St. Petersburg, FL.

Now in its sixth year, American Craft Week is the country’s largest celebration of handmade American craft. It will take place this October 2 – 11. With thousands of diverse events at galleries, artist studios, museums, schools and festivals, it is the premiere public celebration of handmade craft in America. It is a volunteer managed program of CRAFT (Craft Retailers and Artists for Tomorrow) a trade association dedicated to the growth and vitality of the craft industry.
