Their book, published by Chiron Publications in August, brings together best-selling authors, university professors, including UNC Asheville Humanities Lecturer John McClain, and practicing clinicians to explore the topic of narcissism. It examines the idea that the 9/11 attacks, the 2008 financial collapse, decades of war and fear of terrorism have produced a deep-seated national anxiety – a “Trump complex” that may be drawing Americans toward an archetypal image of strength and nostalgia.

Buser and Cruz, psychiatric physicians who have practiced in Asheville for more than 20 years, are co-founders of innerQuest, a psychiatry and counseling practice in Asheville, which now includes three additional clinicians. Buser and Cruz also founded the internet-based Asheville Jung Center, which maintains close affiliations with Jungian training institutes in Chicago, Zurich and elsewhere.

The talk by Cruz and Buser is presented by UNC Asheville’s Department of Psychology. For more information, contact Chair and Associate Professor of Psychology Pam Laughon, laughon@unca.edu or 828.251.6422.
