Now in its fourth year, Bioflyer Productions’ Asheville Talent Slam will bring “a diversity of unique local acts—songwriters, singers, dancers and much more” to the Grey Eagle’s stage on Friday, March 20, according to organizer Rock Eblen.

The Eblen Charities fundraiser calls on Western North Carolina residents of at least 13 years of age to compete for cash prizes ($500 for first place) in a celebrity panel style judging. Eblen says the event is a local incarnation of popular national showdowns like America’s Got Talent and “X Factor.”

This years judges include Jeff Messer of talk show the Revolution, American Idol veteran and Skinny Legs band member Jesse Barry and Meghan McHone of Asheville City Ballet. Panelists are encouraged to use their expertise to provide constructive feedback to each contestant following performances.

Last year’s gathering was a success, with 16 performances and 150 eager attendees, and Eblen’s team hopes to replicate the fun once more.

Asheville Talent Slam takes over the stage at the Grey Eagle on Friday, March 20, at 7 p.m. Tickets, costing $10 in advance or $15 on the day of the show, are available here. Performers can register here by Sunday, March 8 ($10 performer entry fee).
