Teens from Asheville High School are hosting the 3rd Annual “Kick Butts Day” Walk this Saturday morning , March 21 in downtown Asheville. Participants should arrive between 9:30-9:45am at Pack Square Park to register for the the two-mile walk, which begins at 10am. Donations are accepted.
“We are working to save our peers from a deadly addiction that kills more than 1,200 people a day, says John Bridges, Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) Club Co-President. “We know that 90% of tobacco users start using tobacco at or before age 18.”

Area teens and adults will join together on Saturday, March 21 to support the 3rd Annual “Kick Butts Day” Walk in downtown Asheville. Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer and NC Representative Susan Fisher will speak briefly before the walk.
Asheville teens are joining thousands of youth across the country taking part in Kick Butts Day, a nationwide initiative that empowers youth to stand up and speak out about the dangers of tobacco use. As part of a Kick Butts Day celebration, Teens from Asheville High School Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) Club are hosting Saturday’s walk to raise awareness about the harms of tobacco use, to encourage youth to stay tobacco-free and to urge our community to take action on tobacco policies.
Each day more than 1,000 youth become regular smokers: one third of them will die prematurely from a tobacco related illness. Teens are a powerful solution to reducing tobacco use. “We are working to save our peers from a deadly addiction that kills more than 1,200 people a day, says John Bridges, TATU Co-President. “We know that 90% of tobacco users start using tobacco at or before age 18.”
Participants should arrive between 9:30-9:45am at Pack Square Park to register for the walk. The two mile walk will begin at 10am. Donations are accepted, and t-shirts will be available for purchase. A flyer is attached.
