Asheville to hold 9/11 remembrance ceremony

The city of Asheville will hold an official remembrance ceremony for victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks this Friday at 3 p.m. at 100 Court Plaza near Pack Square Park in downtown Asheville, according to an official press release from city officials and the Asheville Fire Department.

The ceremony will begin with opening statements from Asheville Fire Chief Scott Burnette and a presentation of colors by the Asheville Police Department Honor Guard. The national anthem will follow, in addition to an special invocation from Chaplain Pruett and music from the Asheville Firefighters Pipes & Drums unit.

Speakers offering special remarks at the ceremony include Burnette, newly appointed Asheville Chief of Police Tammy Hooper and Mayor Esther Manheimer. The ceremony will close with a moment of silence, wreath placement and closing remarks from Burnette and Pruett.
