Asheville Cardiology Associates welcomes new nurse practitioner

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 5, 2013) – Asheville Cardiology Associates, PA, an affiliate of Mission Health, introduces Erin Smyrski, RN, MSN, as the newest nurse practitioner to the practice. Smyrski has extensive training and experience in nursing and is a member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

“We are pleased to have Erin join Asheville Cardiology Associates,” said Robert L. Wade, Jr., MD, FACC, Chairman of the Practice Board of Asheville Cardiology Associates. “She has worked hard to receive high-quality training and is eager to begin her career as a nurse practitioner. We are confident that with Erin’s help, we will continue to provide superior care to our patients as one of the largest cardiology practices in western North Carolina.”

Smyrski previously worked as a staff nurse in the WakeMed Health and Hospitals Emergency Department in Raleigh, N.C. There, she implemented patient care in every area of the Emergency Department, including fast track, high acuity, trauma bay and triage. She was the team leader for all emergency room departments, overseeing up to four nurses during each shift and functioning as a preceptor to new nurses.

Smyrski received her master’s degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, N.C., and her associate’s degree from Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, N.C. She is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Trauma Nursing.

“I enjoy getting to know my patients and the unique physical, emotional and social support they need,” said Smyrski. “I believe in treating the whole person, as well as promoting a patient-centered approach to care. I look forward to partnering with my patients and their families at Asheville Cardiology Associates to make sure they get the best care possible.”

In her free time, Smyrski enjoys mountain biking, running and traveling with her husband. She has completed five marathons, including the Boston Marathon.
