Asheville Humane Society

Charity Navigator has awarded Asheville Humane Society its highest rating, four stars, for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency. Charity Navigator is America’s largest and most-utilized independent evaluator of charities.

This exceptional ranking of four stars out of a possible four, demonstrates that Asheville Humane Society adheres to good governance and fiscal responsibility. Only 25 percent of charities receive this four-star evaluation, indicating that Asheville Humane Society outperforms most other charities in America.

“We are proud to report that for every dollar raised, 85.6% is spent directly on programs that help us fulfill our mission of promoting the compassionate treatment of animals in our community through education, sheltering and adoption,” said David Smith, Asheville Humane Society Board Chair.

“I am especially grateful to our large, dedicated volunteer force who is a major contributor to keeping our expenses down,” continued Smith. “Their work is the equivalent of having 48 full-time staff members. That kind of devotion is just as meaningful and informative to me as our four-star rating.”
