Young Innovators Crush National Record in Colorado | Pike’s Peak Cycling Hill Climb

On July 14, 2012, FFR Trikes raced two of their production model pedal-electric recumbent trikes at Pike’s Peak Cycling Hill Climb in Colorado. FFR dominated the competition, taking first and second place while setting a new course record of 23:32- leaving the racers from the former record-holding pedal-electric team in the dust. The Transition 422R (1st Place) averaged 31.6 mph through the course, and the Transition 411R (2nd Place) averaged 30.2 mph. The record setting trikes were piloted by co-owners Tommy Ausherman (422R) and Jesse Lee (411R) A highlight reel from the race is up here:

The Pike’s Peak Cycling Hill Climb is one of the most challenging sections of road in the United States. The 12.42 miles course starts at 9,390 feet and then climbs 4,720 feet through more than 156 turns to the finish line at a dizzying 14,110 feet with a 7% average grade.
