Asheville’s Got Talent! Local Clogging company to audition for “America’s Got Talent”

From the press release

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Casting producers from “America’s Got Talent” have hand-picked Asheville Clogging Company to audition for season 7 of the popular television show.

Seventeen girls from Hendersonville, Asheville, Arden and Fletcher will travel to Charlotte on Saturday for the select audition. The girls, ranging in age from 7 to 17, will perform their award-winning routine to the Lady Gaga hit “Born This Way.”

A casting producer from “America’s Got Talent” contacted clogging company director Ashley Shimberg on January 24 and asked the team to audition after finding videos of the team performing online.

“It’s an honor to be asked to come for a scheduled audition,” Shimberg said. “The girls work really hard and they’ve definitely earned this. They love clogging and they love their teammates, and it shines through when they perform. With that kind of dedication, they’ve got what it takes to win.”

The group has been dancing to “Born This Way” since last fall, and the routine quickly became a hit at competitions. For their debut performance at the N.C. Mountain State Fair in September, they took home a first place trophy.

The performance also won second place at the America’s Clogging Hall of Fame World Championships in October and first place at the Hickory Hoedown in November.

Asheville Clogging Company is Western North Carolina’s largest multi-award winning clogging team. Founded in 2003, the company offers family-oriented dance instruction and performs at clogging competitions throughout the Southeast.
