Local author Sarah Addison Allen, a bestselling novelist, will read from her newest book, First Frost. The event takes place at UNC Asheville’s Sherrill Center, Mission Health System Mountain View Room on Saturday, March 21, at 2:30 p.m.

UNC Asheville will welcome alumna Sarah Addison Allen, the New York Times bestselling novelist, who returns to campus for a reading from her newly released novel, First Frost (St. Martin’s Press), at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 21 at UNC Asheville’s Sherrill Center, Mission Health System Mountain View Room. This event is free and open to the public.
Allen’s books have been translated into 30 languages, and there are currently 2 million copies in print. She earned a bachelor’s degree in literature from UNC Asheville in 1994. “Through my degree in literature, I discovered who I was as a reader,” she said. “And from that, I learned who I was as a writer.”
Allen’s big break came in 2007 with the publication of her debut novel, Garden Spells (Bantam), which won the 2008 SIBA Book Award for fiction and was named Best Women’s Fiction of 2007 by the American Library Association’s Reading List.
After publishing four bestselling books in five years, Allen took a hiatus when she was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer at age 39. She returned to writing with her 2014 bestseller, Lost Lake (St. Martin’s Press, 2014). She is now in remission.
Her other novels include The Sugar Queen (Bantam, 2008), The Girl Who Chased the Moon (Bantam, 2010) and The Peach Keeper (Bantam, 2011). Her books have appeared on the bestseller lists of The New York Times, Barnes & Noble, Publisher’s Weekly, USA Today and Wall Street Journal.
